About the studio
Kultoura Studio documents Indonesian ethnographic art with academic care and visual fidelity, so that every textile, mask, and shadow puppet is understood through its materials and history.
Studio background
Founded by a small team of curators and researchers, the studio began by cataloguing textiles, puppets, and masks held in regional collections across Indonesia. Each entry records the object's construction, material, and documented provenance.
Our research partnerships span museum archives, artisan communities, and university ethnography programs, with fieldwork carried out in consultation with the communities that made and use these forms.
Our mission
We document Indonesian material culture with respect for the people who make it. We pair archival preservation with artisan apprenticeships, and we present living cultural forms without exoticizing them, so that the knowledge stays in the hands of those who carry it forward.
